BCR is Proud to Support B1G1: Businesses Giving Back to The Community

Home » BCR is Proud to Support B1G1: Businesses Giving Back to The Community

At BCR we are proud to support Buy One Give One (B1G1), a fantastic business giving initiative that supports local community ventures in dozens of meaningful ways.

Like most businesses, we set up BCR in order to make a positive difference to people’s lives. It’s something we are all passionate about, and being part of B1G1 lets us make a practical difference to people in some of the most vulnerable and disadvantaged communities in the world.

How It Works

The idea behind B1G1 is simple. It directly links businesses in the UK, the USA and around the world, to grassroots projects in the developing world.

The funding a business provides is based on their own day-to-day activities. For instance, if you’re a coffee shop, you might make a small contribution to B1G1 for every cup of coffee you sell. If you are a firm of solicitors, a contribution may be made whenever you sign up a new client, and so on.

The money goes to finance practical initiatives that make an immense impact on the lives of disadvantaged people. These include educational opportunities for children in remote communities, water purification equipment, and micro-finance schemes for local, sustainable businesses.

Every project has the goal of empowering local people to take control of their own lives, for ongoing health and sustainable incomes.

And for the businesses that take part, it gives a personal link that lets participants directly see the difference they make to people’s lives. For us, this is the difference between B1G1 and other charities, and the reason we are so passionate about it. There are no faceless donations and no uncertainty about where the money is going.

Knowing the difference that just a small contribution can make, it motivates us to keep working harder and giving more!

How To Get Involved

Businesses of all sizes can get involved with B1G1. You can choose a level of giving that suits your requirements, and can scale this up or down at any time. Membership starts from only one US dollar per day. You can choose the projects you want to support, and 100% of your donation goes directly to the people who need it most.

THE UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS … THE GLOBAL GOALS

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), also known as the Global Goals, were adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015 as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030.

The 17 SDGs are integrated—that is, they recognize that action in one area will affect outcomes in others, and that development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability.

Through the pledge to Leave No One Behind, countries have committed to fast-track progress for those furthest behind first. That is why the SDGs are designed to bring the world to several life-changing ‘zeros’, including zero poverty, hunger, AIDS and discrimination against women and girls.

Everyone is needed to reach these ambitious targets. The creativity, knowhow, technology and financial resources from all of society is necessary to achieve the SDGs in every context.

This is how our involvement with B1G1 is integrating with and supporting the aim to meet the Global Goals.
